Male victims of domestic violence struggle to disclose abuse

“Support should focus on helping men understand and recognize abusive behaviors and the seriousness of the abuse.”

Researchers found that men are still reluctant to report domestic violence and abuse because they are afraid that the authorities will not believe them. They also hesitate to seek help due to stigma of being seen as weak because they seek support.

It is important to spread awareness that abuse toward men exists. Men also need to be taught to recognize signs of abuse, and to be informed that resources and other help are available for male survivors.
